YAZ® oral contraceptive approved in the Netherlands

Berlin. The Dutch regulatory authorities have granted Bayer Schering Pharma AG national approval for the new low-dose oral contraceptive YAZ®. The product will be registered for oral contraception and the treatment of moderate acne in women seeking contraception. YAZ® has been available in the U.S. since April 2006. In October 2006 YAZ® became the first oral contraceptive to be granted regulatory approval in the U.S. for the treatment of the emotional and physical symptoms associated with PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). Bayer Schering Pharma AG plans to proceed with an application to register the PMDD indication in Europe too.
